I can't find it on the official sites and 'Empire Earth II' sounds like another game altogether. Anybody know the story on this?
Well, I'm more confused than ever! GCW shows a crack for 'v. 1.1.15,' no 'v. 1.2.3' (a phony sounding v. No., if I ever saw one). My current version is 1.1.5.0; is there actually a more recent official patch?

My current version is 1.1.5.0; is there actually a more recent official patch? Yeah, it's an official patch, though I don't understand the 'Empire Earth' reference. Sad to say, KOW seems to have sunk without a trace. A clear indicator of that is that no one's even bothered to do a no-cd crack for the latest version which has been out for nearly a month now. I'll stick with v.
1.1.5, since I'm not going to spend my time swapping CD's. IMO, KOW deserves better, as it's a first-rate game. Archived from groups: comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic 'DocScorpio' wrote in message news:p%[email protected].

You could try to make an image of the CD and mount it, some programs still work that way.
I have Alcohol 120% and have about 5 different current games mounted (some are mini images) and they all work. Suprisingly, I have the most luck with EA games. NFS Underground II, Sims 2, etc. Archived from groups: comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic J, I downloaded Alcohol 120% but have never tried to copy a game cd before. I'm trying to make a backup copy of AOE II Conquerors for my son (he tends to get scratches on his more than I do on mine, but he's only 9), but Alcohol read the cd for 58 minutes and was only 1% into the reading.
Is that to be expected? Can AOE II Conquorers be copied? I've bought three sets of cd's already and really don't want to buy anymore copies if I don't have to.
We have three computers in my house running it, it's our favorite game. Any advice with Alcohol 120% or other backup methods would be appreciated. I'm a newbie to this stuff. Any advice with Alcohol 120% or other backup methods would be appreciated. I'm a newbie to this stuff. I run AOE 2 Conquereors from a CD image that I made using Alcohol 120%, so I can tell you that it can be done. I am in no way an expert on this however, so I don't know what factors go into whether it will work for you or not - I think there can be problems depending on what CD drive you are using to read the CD, for example, but I don't know any more helpful specifics. One thing I always do when making a backup or a CD image to play from, I first go to makeabackup.com and look up the game in their database to see what copy protection it uses, and then I make sure that I have Alcohol 120% set for that kind of CD (little dropdown menu for Safedisc, SecureROM, etc).
I seem to recall that the copy of Conquerors did take a long time to make, maybe a couple hours or so. Don't always trust that 'percent completed' bar - maybe it is percent copied, but won't accurately tell you percent of time it will take - first 1% of copying takes 50% of time, or something like that. Another thing I have found is that after making the CD image, I have to uninstall the game from its original installation (assuming that I already installed it by the physical CD) and then reinstall from the CD image, in order to be able to play from the CD image. Otherwise, I have problems with the game not 'seeing' the CD image and still telling me to put the CD in. Maybe there is something in the registry that could be changed to avoid having to reinstall, but I don't know what, I just know this works for me. (The reinstall is a one time thing, not each time I play.) I hope this helps you.
Archived from groups: comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic Thanks John. I appreciate you taking the time to explain the copying to me. I did select Safedisc as my cd type. That's one thing I read somewhere. And I tried both on my laptop with just one drive, a cdrw, and my desktop with a cd-rom and a cd/dvd-r drive, but they both just sat there for an hour and just said reading at 1%. Maybe I'll try it again, and leave it go and see what happens.
Thanks again for your help. RILY John Smith wrote: On 28 Feb 2005 07:01:02 -0800, 'RILY' wrote: I downloaded Alcohol 120% but have never tried to copy a game cd before.
